I’ve just been reflecting on this because “homework” is used as a count noun in all my “homework-intensive” classes taught by British, American, and Canadian professors.
But what you say seems strange to me. When using countable or uncountable nouns, pay attention to articles and adjectives! Tonight it’s French, Latin, Pyshiks, Spelling: Ccountable trying to understand kaiserina’s description of homeworkas not a “pure substantive”.

I wouldn’t use “piece” of homework, personally, but that’s my preference.

You need to do all the homeworks to pass the class. In my experience, ‘homework’ can homweork as an uncountable or, less often, as a countable noun.

Homework, like housework, is a non-countable noun. As an American, I have had many homework assignments, but the word “homework” is always singular and uncountable.
